As the highest governing body of The UWI system, the University Council plays a vital role in reviewing and making key decisions concerning business affairs and the appointment of senior officers. Notably, Chancellor Dodridge Miller presided over this meeting—his first as Chair of the University Council since taking office in August 2024. This gathering also marked the first in-person University Council Meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The opening session was broadcast live on UWItv, reflecting the University’s ongoing commitment to transparency with its regional stakeholders.

In his report, Vice-Chancellor Beckles delved into the global and regional challenges, including geopolitical tensions, economic stagnation, and the pressing issue of climate change, all of which have increasingly impacted the Caribbean. He also underscored the University’s contributions and successes in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, along with its ambitious Triple A Strategic Plan, known as the “Revenue Revolution”. This plan aims to leverage the institution’s resources and capabilities to generate a net total of US$50 million by 2027, thereby reinforcing the equity base of the enterprise for sustained and long-term growth.
